Comments from Wintertime Tours

Don't come out in the winter just to see alligators. While it does happen (see below), gators are relatively dormant in the Winter.  But ... we guarantee you'll be captivated by the enchanting beauty of this dynamic wetland environment.  And, you'll be on a virtually "private" tour,  with a maximum of 6 passengers per boat.  Read on:

Donny was our guide. It was fantastic, much better than the larger boats. Our tour was much longer than I expected and that was just fine. We will never forget our trip. Thank you!!!

We had such a fabulous time on our swamp tour with our tour guide, Donnie.  It was truly the highlight of our trip.  Donnie's intimate knowledge of the swamp area, plant life and animals who live there made the trip both entertaining and educational.  We felt very safe, and the sleeping bags kept us warm on that cold day (late November).  Thanks again for a fabulous trip!

We have been on airboat rides before in Florida's Everglades, but nothing even comes close to this swamp.  It was far more beautiful and fun.  Our guide, Sam, was attentive to our wants -- I asked to see some camps and he took us to see exactly what I imagined/wanted.  Well worth the money and we'd like to come again.  Only suggestion is if you're trying to find them, it's hard to know what parking lot to meet in (they use a public launch dock)...maybe a sign or something would be a good idea???  Anyways, it was awesome and my boyfriends said, "This swamp kicks Miami's swamps' ass!"  :)

We just wanted to thank you for a fun afternoon adventure.  We visited New Orleans for our honeymoon and this was the highlight adventure of our trip.  Fun fun fun is all we have to say.  So glad we picked you over one of those big companies who put 60 people in the same boat.  This is the way to do it.  Capt. Sam---YOUR GREAT !!!

We are so happy we chose your organization for our swamp adventure.  It was the most professional, thorough and thrilling adventure - most definitely the highlight of our New Orleans vacation!  Thank you to Chris for the personal attention and the great conversation during lunch.  Thank you to Benjamin for his knowledge and humor while navigating us through the swamps.  While we did not see Benjamin waist high in the swamp with a nutria or alligator in hand, we loved our trip!  Thank you all for the great memories and we will definitely watch for you on the National Geographic Channel in March!

Hi Chris and Benjamin, January 7, 2003 cold weather and all we enjoyed an exhilarating day on your airboat. An adventure it was with Benjamin at the helm. We were most impressed with Benjamin's ability to navigate through the most narrow of passage-ways. Many thanks Benjamin. As my uncle from England summed it up for all of us 'The airboat was the highlight of the trip to New Orleans'. Many thanks Renee for an excellent narrative. You took us back in time describing the lives of the families and the slaves who inhabited Evergreen Plantation. You took a over a hundred years of history and summed it up quite vividly. We'd sure like to do the entire tour again! Nancy and Noll Amidzich, WI Eugenia Charnley Perfetto, WI Thomas Charnley, England

Chris & Benjamin: We have been trying to think of a way to adequately describe our day with you and we are still at a loss for words. To describe it in one word, it would be “Won-der-ful”. The one thing we keep thinking is “We were not ready for it to end”. Even though it was colder than %@X!^&*, we still experienced the best part of our visit to New Orleans! We would also like also to thank you for the tour of EVERGREEN PLANTATION. What an incredible feeling to stand on that lane paved with shell, lined with Live Oak and see the 22 cabins that served as slave quarters in their original locations. It truly was a memorable moment. We felt transported and connected to a time long ago. Should we have the opportunity to visit "NOLA" again; another tour with Airboat Adventures would first on our list of priorities. However, we would want to spend no less than a full day out in the swamp with you guys. Thanks for an all-around incredible experience! With warm regards: Alan & Sue Zentz

Hi Chris, My wife and I just wanted to thank you again for such a wonderful tour. We went on the tour on December 12th. The weather wasn't the best but was still one of the highlights of our vacation. The pictures we have holding the alligator turned out great. You are a great guide. Your  knowledge, friendliness and humour added to the experience. We will definitely recommend you to anyone we know that will be going down there. Thank you for the restaurant recommendations. K-Paul's was amazing. The turtle soup was great. As well we went to Commander's Palace for their Jazz brunch and it was also a great meal. Thank you again for helping to make our vacation a memorable experience. Geordie Clyde

Hello Chris and Benjamin, My mother and I were on your tour 1-7-03- We had such a nice day!! Your whole operation from start to finish, was thought out and perfect for a day adventure. The Evergreen Plantation was very interesting- we never realized how diverse the cultures were. We always just thought French & American influences- We were hoping for a tad of a warmer day, to walk around the property, but Mother Nature did not rain on us :> Having a lite lunch was just perfect, also-- The restaurant folks were real friendly !! I was not aware we were going to stop, but it was perfect timing--- Your guide Benjamin (I hope this is spelled correctly) was such a delight !! He really made the trip so " MUCH FUN " --- If he would have wrestled an alligator- that would have topped off a perfect day. We were sitting up front & thank you so much for getting the sleeping bags, it made the day comfortable. Well when we hit the marsh, that was the best. My Mother was holding on for dear life, & just loved the thrill. Tell Benjamin, we had a marvelous afternoon. His stories and route was perfect, what a really nice young man!!!! Chris, your recommendations for restaurants, was a big help-- You have no idea- We usually ask the locals, but you gave us all the scoop without a nudge. You truly are a people person, and made everyone feel at ease. (like you had known us all, prior to our outing) We went to Christians (we decided that was the best meal and service, during our trip)...Also The Acme Oyster House (the fresh oysters topped off Wed. afternoon) We truly Thank You for a Great Adventure!!!! And a DAY FOR THE BOOKS! Friendly regards, Laura Price Huber Heights, Ohio

Chris and Donnie, I just wanted to say what a great time we had at the plantation and on the airboat. Although the weather was cold (for New Orleans, not for Canada - December 6th) and there were no Gators, we saw all sorts of other animals and birds. What a blast, it was the highlight of our trip. We can't wait to come back in the summer to take the tour again and meet the gators. eh! Special thanks to Donnie, for taken the extra time to take us down by the river to see the Bon Fires to light the way for Papa Noel. Overall it was a great experience and memories that will last forever....Thanks...

Hi Chris, Could you show this mail to Benjamin please? Thanks. Hi Benjamin, Most of the people in your guestbook are from the USA. We want to say that we, 2 Belgian girls, really enjoyed our tour with you november the 3th. I hope you remember us. Your swamp tour was great, but you were more interessting. So cute, so funny, so enthousiastic! It was a beautifull experience and we learned a lot. We would recommand this tour to anyone from Belgium to go to the 'Airboat adventures' in Louisiana. If you ever travel to BELGIUM? Don't doubt to sent us an e-mail. You are welcome, as we were in the USA. Benjamin, we're a little bit worried about your leg when you felt on the airboat by pushing a tree (in the swamp). Were you allright? Oh, and we didn't find your favourite café between Alabama and Florida while our trip to Florida. Please send us an e-mail back!! greetings, Melinda and Tamara xx

I have photos to send you from our trip last week and need a mailing address. My dad and I had a great time in spite of the cool weather. My boys and my husband couldn't believe that I actually held an alligator, but the pictures were proof positive! (I think I'd rather hold my dog, "Lucky", more than the alligator on a continuing basis! Happy Thanksgiving! Peggy McClure

Dear Chris: Thanks again for so graciously accommodating our entire family of 12 on your tour (11/22/02). We were all in NO celebrating my 40th birthday. I did a lot of things while I was there to help me forget about turning 40, but nothing made me feel more young--or ALIVE--than holding that alligator! Your tour was indeed the highlight of our trip: more exciting than meeting the New York Nicks (they were staying at our hotel); more exhilarating than the debauchery of Bourbon Street; more thrilling than grave yards, vampires, and haunted houses; and even more interesting than the big movie being filmed in the streets of the FQ! Our group ranged in age from 5 to 65 and every one of us enjoyed the tour because there was something for everyone: speed, scenery, wildlife, history, and best of all, hanging out with locals (the guides and the critters). To any one considering this tour: pass on the parade, miss the jazz music, skip the shopping, and definitely by-pass those party boat tours. Get yourself on Airboat Adventures for a truly wild ride. Thanks for the great swamp tour. We were looking for an adventure not just a big boat tour of the swamp. Thanks to Benjamin we had a great trip and learned a lot. His stories and fun personality made the day. Thanks again.

Chris, Thanks again for taking such good care of us. The girl who couldn't come on the tour was very unhappy when I told her about the good looking manly men who were our guides. The snacks you brought with you were great - we'll all be on the internet trying to order tasso. We enjoyed some beer and shrimp for dinner too. Really, would not have gone to a place like that without Ron's recommendation but the food was great and the price was right! Thanks again for everything and I'll be sure to pass the word about what a great tour you guys have.

Wanted to look once more at your website and remember the great tour we took last week. Chris and Benjamin were wonderful guides - you guys really like your jobs. All of us on the tour really enjoyed ourselves. What a beautiful place. I can't say enough about this tour and this company -if you go to New Orleans you must do this.

Hello Chris, Now that I am back from traveling (I went straight to Italy and then France after coming back from New Orleans!), I wanted to drop you a quick note about our Swamp Adventure: FANTASTIC! My delegates and I had an amazing time discovering the swamps and their natural beauties. And we encountered at least 7 alligators! Both our guides (Benjamin and his colleague) were very knowledgeable and so enthusiastic about their jobs and the swamps that we could have spent at least another 2 hours with them. Needless to say you will hear from Eclipse in the future should we have another group in New Orleans! With best wishes, Sandra

BEST MONEY WE SPENT!!!!! I recommend this for anyone with the time to spend an afternoon out of the city. Voted as the best part of our 4 day vacation. -- And we were on Bourbon Street for Halloween!!!! Extremely knowledgeable and friendly guides. High performance machines. This is not a leisurely float in a pond. It's HANDS ON AND IN YOUR FACE!!!

Chris, I have only gone thru a few of my photos from our "swamp tour" on Monday with Benjamin. I am still talking about it to anyone that will listen! I truly enjoyed it. Its right up there with my trip to Africa last fall, and I didn't think many things would come close. The swamp is beautiful in its own right, just as the Serengeti in East Africa, or the mountains in Yosemite valley...... This was my second trip with my Nikon digital, and I am very happy with the way it performed. I just used it for a photo session earlier in my studio and it does great with studio light too......the digital world has got me hooked, and not so very long along I was NOT a believer or even interested in shooting with one. If you ever have any questions on photography issues, please feel free to email me. Thanks again, and be sure and tell Benjamin thank you too, I'll send you more photos as I go thru them. Jody Ross
